#Nyanmade by Love Kuching Project - monthly gifts for monthly givers!

Over the last few weeks, a group of us have been meeting at LKP HQ to brainstorm on ideas for a new "subscription" based model of monthly gifts for donors.

Our group has some amazingly crafty individuals, and so many creative ideas have been suggested for consideration. As always, Scotty was on hand to check on the quality of ideas and for final approvals.

The basic idea is this: someone (possibly your good self) arranges a special monthly recurring payment of $18.75 (or more!) to Love Kuching Project. Then you fill out a nifty form (here) and the super craft ninjas activate their artistic kungfu and mail you a secret handmade gift.

The funds you donate will go to the general fund for expenses including vet fees, health supplements and other cat related expenses that support Love Kuching Project's missions - cat rescue, rehab, rehoming and sterilisation of strays. You can read more about Love Kuching Project's mission here.

What exactly will you get? Well, it's a secret. But these are just a few of the very early-stage prototypes we've experimented with. We do promise that all the items are for humans, and not cats, since we know that not all cat lovers are able to have the joy of having a cat companion.

We've even come up with themes for the months ahead.

The themes don't quite give away anything, but that's the whole point! We'd like to preserve some mystery and surprise our donors every month. The gifts definitely aren't supposed to make up the value of your donation. In fact, to ensure that the majority of the funds go to the kitties you want to help, most of the value of the gifts will come from our artistic flair (and a fair amount of bargaining and thoughtful thriftiness). You can also instruct us to send the gift to a friend, or opt out of the gift altogether. 

Keen? Here are the steps to be part of the Nyanmade monthly subscription!

STEPS:

1) Make a recurring monthly payment to Love Kuching Project's bank account: DBS Current Acct 027-905975-3. The minimum is $18.75 until Dec 2015 to qualify for the monthly gift. You can always give more than the minimum... the more you give, the more kitties get!

2) Use your full name in the reference (and then use the same name when filling out this form so we know its you!)

3) Arrange for the contribution to be transacted on the 15th of every month (remember that some banks require 2-3 working days for the recurring payment to be activated). If you miss the date, your subscription will start the following month (or you can contact ami@lovekuchingproject.org to make special arrangements)

4) Once you have done the above, please fill out the form at bit.ly/nyanmade1!

2015 - year of organic growth in our kitty work

For the past few months, we have thought, deliberated, discussed and voted over the things we want to do through LKP for cats in need in this year, and we would like to share them with you.

We want to grow in our existing work. This immediately conjures up dreams of a bigger space where we can provide care for more cats in need, but 2015 is simply not the year to do it. It will require a base fund of $60,000 as a pad for a year's rental and utilities, and thinking brick-and-mortar is limiting.

So we think of 'organic' growth. What is that really? It means we grow our existing programmes, beyond the constraints of the physical space we have.

In order to expand our rescue work beyond the 5 cat suites we can offer to sick and injured cats at a time, we need to grow our Foster Network. This is something we are already working on and you will find opportunities coming your way on how to be a part, big or small, in this. By expanding the number of Foster Caregivers we have, we can say YES to more rescue cases, because after we tend to their veterinary needs at the clinic, the cats will have somewhere to go to regardless of our brick-and-mortar limitations. We know your concerns. Can I foster a sick cat? Do I have the skills to? Do I have the time? We will quell all these fears in due course.

Another thing we are doing to expand our work, is in expanding our knowledge base. This started first off with the recruitment of Foster Care Volunteers to take shifts on non-play/clean days, focusing on the medical care of cats, and in administering supplements - nutraceutical, herbal, homeopathic, aromatherapy - to the cats to improve their base level of care beyond pharmaceuticals.

In light of increasing our Foster Network and in sharing our knowledge, we will give back more of what we have learned through the years of cat care with the public even more, so you can expect more cat care talks in 2015 that you can benefit from.

And in sharing our love for cats, specifically through feline therapy to humans that need it, we have found that this is a great need in our community. We as cat lovers in no way 'hate humans but love cats', instead we see that we need to share the love of cats more and more to people that need it, to expose myths about cats being dirty, to elevate their status as companions, to show the world they have much to give to humans just as we give to them. We will be doing more of our feline therapy outreach, don't you fear. Seeing how a human patient benefits from therapy from a cat is priceless. 

All this, will require more funds, in some way. But we don't see it as a problem, we see a fun challenge instead! We will be launching more kitty-fun stuff for you to take part in, because love for cats is after all a feel-good, lovely thing we want to evangelise to the world about isn't it! We (secretly) see it as education and outreach, but to you it will be something fun you can be a part of with the LKP community. What are we talking about? Akan datang! *tease*

This has of course led to some number crunching and we have come to realise we need to raise a total of $6,000 per month to meet our budget requirements. As we always say, if you can't adopt, foster. If you can't foster, volunteer. If you can't volunteer, donate. There is always something - you - can do to reciprocate the love that the cats in our lives and neighbourhoods give us.

Regardless of space. Yes, the humble Love Kuching Foster Space, is small. But we won't be letting it deter us. We will continue to raise the bar, as we do every single year. For you, and most importantly, for the cats.

Cat Party on a Caturday!

Hello everyone. Last Caturday there was a Cat Party held for launch of Love Kuching's new foster space! There were lots of visitors there but let's have the pictures show you for yourselves how the launch was.

Visitors got a mini tour of the new foster space! The items, the suites and decoration are donated or contributed by the various Cat Angels who have supported Love Kuching.

The giant photo on the wall and the photo of Slinky on the door were done by Furry Photos. If you want pictures of your own pets, (it doesn't have to be cats) check his website and contact him.

Two of the suites are being used at the moment by Harry and Cubby.

And then time to play or interact with the cats roaming about!

The cats milling about for pettings or treats! Or even to play. They got to play a lot with the visitors there using the swishy wand for them to jump at.

Sunkist sat about in his weird but effectively cooling way for you to pet or touch him.

Lenny (now recently adopted!) had attention lavished on him.

Kitten IC, Sealy, hung outside for a bit. He's more interested in sleeping somewhere else. He's a pretty big cat! Blur but big and really cute.

Remember Chanel? Her parents brought her for a visit and it's been 7 months since she'd been to Love Kuching. She's now flourishing very well and is a bit chubby now.

As the party came to an end, the cats were tired out along with the humans who had played and cuddled them.

The humans want to celebrate for me when I become adult cat. For I is now kitten. When become older cat, is special. I am already special, say the humans. But celebrate birthday for become adult cat is also special. So I is very very special kitty!

Humans also tell me very many times that I need to leave this foster home and go to forever home. I have no forever home to go to yet, so Auntie Elaine says I must make many humans know about me so they be adopt me and I can has my very own humans to rub and purr and knead on everyday.

So for my birthday we is be have online party. For online party can spread far to many humans and more will know how much I love humans and want a real home. This way also humans who cannot come and see me to give me my favourite Angel Salmon Treats can never mind see me online through video and tweets-picktures.

I will be tweeting on @luvkuching using hashtag #echochats and Auntie Elaine is will stream video of me doing things like sleeping which you can see also on the twitter. This will happen next weekend. Because actually neither the humans (nor I myself even though is very clever) know when exactly is my birthday, so they choose weekend.

If you is want to visit me, you must first contact Auntie Elaine through SMS or Whatsapp at 90880675. Because she be need to tell Uncle Andy to clean the foster home before you come.  Most weekday nights after 8pm and weekends after 1pm is be okay. You may also appear on the video!

Presents? Me wants to have humans to rub, knead and purr on, and take me home forever. So is want you to share to many friends who are also humans about me, because I am special.

But in meanwhile, we share everything in this house, so can give food, everycat can eat. We be like the expensive canned food actually but is be expensive so we not always have. Foods like Addiction Turkey, Addiction Duck, Wellness CORE Chicken. We likes. We also likes the Taste of the Wild, can also be the fish flavour one. But if you not want to give expensive foods is okay because eat the normal ones also can.

It is will go to our Veterinary Fund, because I be very sick when was young and sick kittens be need medicine which is very yucky but important. Medicine for us foster kitties is buy with Veterinary Fund. Also when we see our nice doctor, human Dr Dawn.

Lots of people have no resources or ability to adopt a cat at this current point in their lives. Some are more dog people. Some are merely neutral. But we spread the love for cats that night, nearly converted @auturmis who said that he was more of a dog person but our silly Sealy (Kitten IC) had captured his heart. Everyone spread the word on our work, and all in all, we can say it was a great Valentine's Day!

Bamboo, Berry and Barley

Mary Lou's 3 kittens are 7 weeks old this week! They are super active and love to play and here are some pics and videos of them during a hilariously poor attempt on our part on trying to take their pictures - they are really playful and wouldn't keep still!

The kittens were born in a carrier when their mom Mary Lou was supposed to be sent for neutering from a TNRM project back in February at Bendemeer Blk 45 together with the other cats from her colony. After finding out that Mary Lou was pregnant and had given birth we took the kittens and their mother in from the moment they were born, as kittens should not be separated from their mother. Mary Lou will be neutered and returned to Bendemeer when she stops lactating as she is currently foster-mothering 2 rescues Simone and Rainy.

Bamboo, Berry and Barley are now fully weaned and able to eat dry food on its own, dewormed, litter-trained, have been vet-cleared of illness and are healthy.They did have slight flu' when they were 3 weeks old but it cleared up within days when we put them on topical eye medication, nutraceutical supplements and herbal flu' remedy. Having been on mother's milk they are healthier than orphan kittens.

They are good friends with one another and with their pen-mates Wes and Kit who are also up for adoption.

Update: Bamboo, featured below, has already been adopted.
This is Bamboo, male ticked tabby with mid-length tail. He has a cute brick-red heart-shaped nose, and has light mackerel tabby stripes on his legs.  He is the most vocal of all his siblings, and loves to follow us around, enjoys human companionship a lot. We used to call him Baby Tabby -

This is Berry, black male with long tail that has a cute kink. His colouring is a rarity - he is fully black with no white spots, a prized virtue in black cats. He loves play-wrestling with other kittens, also loves to meow at us and is very docile. We used to name him Baby Black.

This is Barley, female black with white kitten, whom we used to call Baby Tux because of her bicolour pattern. She is the smartest of the 3, learned to eat solid food before her siblings did and is thus bigger in size than her brothers. She is a bit more reserved and quieter than her brothers and is more independent - she loves to explore things on her own and gives way to her pen-mates and siblings. Resembles our Sayang (cat mascot on top of the blog page) not just in colouring but in personality!
